REVIEW SYNOPSIS
Act of Valor is a film about “Good vs Evil” that was dedicated to all the soldiers who gave their lives in the current global agenda related to terrorism in keeping the one great nation United States of America secured and safe.
OPENING CREDIT
The movie opens with a narrative by one of the main characters from the movie Chief Petty Officer Dave who wrote a letter to one of his friend’s son about bravery, heroism & code of honor.
PULP
Opening scene of the movie starts with a bang, capturing our attention right from the start where the American ambassador and his son gets killed in a explosion caused by a suicide bomber in Philippines. The mastermind behind this hideous crime was a Chechen terrorist named Abu Shabal who flees the scene and hides out in Russia.
This incident lead to a follow up investigation with two CIA Agents Walter Ross (Nestor Serrano) and Morales (Roselyn Sánchez) from South America, meeting at Morales’s apartment to discuss their next target, a drug smuggler named Mikhail Troykovich, nicknamed “Christo”. As the two were getting ready to make their next move, Christo’s men makes a surprise attack and in the process kills Agent Walter and takes Morales in captivity near a riverside compound. Christo orders his men not to kill Morales and heavily torture her till she spills out all the information she has gathered about his organization.
While in Coronado, California a team of seven SEAL members from the Bandito Platoon is gathered to deploy on a mission to save Morales and bring down the terrorist regime of Abu Shabal and Christo. The SEAL’s take down Christo’s men in a action packed scene that will keep you glued to your seat and depict a feeling of adrenaline rush through your veins. After saving Morales, an informant tells the U.S army about Mikhail’s whereabouts which leads to his arrest. In their interrogation the authorities discover Abu Shabal’s next move, his ultimate plan to bring chaos on the American soil using sixteen terrorist fighters strapped with explosive vests which cannot be detected by any metal detector.
Acquiring this information the U.S intelligence figures out Shabal’s plan as he is planning to enter the U.S border by the help of his drug Cartel connection in Mexico through a mule tunnel located under a Milk factory. Will the SEAL’s make it on time to stop Shabal and his sixteen men troop from causing havoc in America?
END ROLL
This is Director Mike McCoy and writer Kurt Johnstad’s first film where they decided to use actual active duty SEAL’s from the United Sates Navy. They felt that using real soldiers could bring more life to the character and the story they wrote in this modern day action movie. Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut used Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras with Zeiss ZE and Panavision Primo lenses to give us a first person shooter style camera work for some of the action scenes in the movie, which will make you feel like part of the action.
PERCEPTION
Even though Rotten Tomato has given a 42/100 ratings based on 31 reviews, which I will vow for the bad acting and a plot that was well formulated but not delivered as expected, its like the boy who cried wolf but only this time the wolf never came.
RATING: 2.5 / 5
