Evanescence Brings Dubai to Life
A Large group of Metal heads, Goths and rock fans gathered last night at the World Trade Center to witness Evanescence in full glory for the first time in the UAE. The stage was inaugurated by Local band EYE (Empty Yard Experiments) and they were nothing short of brilliant! It almost felt as though they were an international band in fact many were amazed that they were local… queries went about asking who they were and how come we never heard of them before. The progressive post rock band held their audience up to the very end with amazing creative music and Visuals. There some sound issues during their performance, rectified before Evanescence hit the stage, which they had to fight through but it didn’t take away anything from their performances.
There was an hour to wait for Evanescence after EYE. The highlight during this period was the sound check… mostly because it was unusual with the sound engineer going “check yep” about a million times the fan began to pick on and started to shout out “yep” after him. At Precisely 9:35 Evanescence was unleashed. In usual style the stage was filled with darkness and Amy Lee came running out and blast the halls into orbit into the goth-rock galaxy. She was full of energy singing running around, head banging all through the entire 1 hour and 25 minutes without missing a beat! Keeping up with her would be difficult tonight but Will hunt was up to it… Will played an incredible show, the flamboyant maestro added that extra oomph to the performance with his drum stick twirling and trickery and was a joy to watch.
The show started with ‘What you want’.. and greeted Dubai with Evanescence style of saying “Hello”… All the songs were well accepted by the crowd though the most impact on the crowd came from Going under, Weight of the world, Lost in Paradise and of course Bring me to life which ended in a Bang with amazing firework display. The songs sent everyone surging forward jumping, headbanging and screaming at the top of their lungs . One of the best performances of the show was Evanescence’s latest single ‘The Change’ which brings forth the amazing range of Amy lee’s voice and her variations, vocal gymnastics if you will. Overwhelmed with the reception the band ended the night with My immortal, as the fans sang along to one of evanescence’s most iconic songs. The audience however wanted more, to which Amy lee responded… “I guess you have to have us back again… Its great to have friends all over the world.”
