‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ has been a universal hit and is the biggest selling single in the world this year; to date it has sold 9 million, topped the charts in 18 countries (iTunes No.1 in 39 countries). ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ is currently sitting defiantly at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for a 6th consecutive week, having just broken the record for a No.1 hit across four Billboard charts in the same week. The video has tallied up an astonishing 250 million YouTube hits and is still averaging over a million hits a day.

The track’s parent album Making Mirrors has sold over 1.5 million and gone Top 10 in 17 countries (iTunes Top 10 in 30 countries). It peaked in the UK charts at No.4 and still resides in the Top 10 three months later.

Making Mirrors, Gotye's new album

Gotye’s new single ‘Eyes Wide Open’ was the first song recorded for ‘Making Mirrors’ and brilliantly showcases his expressive vocals and fantastic range, as well as his propulsive drumming. The self-produced track also features field recordings of idiosyncratic instruments, including the Winton Musical Fence, a large musical instrument installation from outback Australia. Gotye explains, “I played the fence strings one windy night in Winton and recorded it on a portable stereo recorder. That became the bass line for Eyes Wide Open.”

In addition to the release of ‘Eyes Wide Open’, Gotye will also release this week a collection of official remixes of ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’.

Gotye has made an overwhelmingly strong connection with people worldwide, not only with his unique blend  of  pop  smarts  and  sonic  experimentalism   on  record,  but  on  the  back  of  beautifully  crafted, multifaceted  live performances  around the globe. They affirm him as one of the most exciting artists of this generation.
