Opening Credits

The year is 2018, the location… The moon! We see a couple of astronauts landing perfectly on the moon, taking their first steps after, I assume, the US have finally decided to go back to the moon. What do these brave warriors from the land of the free discover? Nazis. Nazis on the moon. Enter Iron Sky

Pulp

I’ve been following these directors on Facebook for what seems like decades, waiting for this movie to come out. Getting constant updates, blog posts, teasers and pleas for donations, the people behind this movie have worked extremely hard to get this produced and you can clearly see it. This movie is so wonderfully cheesy. It’s not meant to be taken seriously, so if you pick up on about 8000 plot holes as I did, take them lightly. There are parodies of everything! And actually a few good representations here and there.

Movie review for Iron Sky

So back to the Nazis. We enter this world that was created on the dark side of the moon by a bunch of Nazis that escaped from Earth in the year 1945, and from the looks of things they’re still pretty much living it up like it’s 1945! Everything has a sort of steam punk quality to it, the clothes, the space suits, the machines, it seems very well thought out, the designs of everything, you only wonder where did all that raw material come from? But of course we can’t fret over the plot holes, like I said, there are too many to count.

These Space Nazis capture one of the American astronauts, who happens to be a black model.

The Nazi evil scientist, insane but quirky, reinvents the USB port to allow the power of the smart phone to be transported. Of course the smart phone runs out of battery which means these Space Nazis have decided to return to Earth to retrieve more of these odd contraptions that seem to fuel all those machine things!

And oh the adventures! Remember the parodies I mentioned before? Well guess what! There is a parody of Sarah Palin! And she’s the president! Oh glorious day! And she’s a terrible human being of course!  They don’t mention her name… Ever… But you’ll know it’s her, believe me, you’ll know. On Earth the people believe that both the astronauts have been killed and she seems furious! So wonderfully enraged! This woman appears to have been brought up and raised in hellfire and survived on the suffering of others, so deliciously evil! We also discover early on that the black model was sent to space to up the presidents’ ratings as the elections are coming up and she wants to secure a second term for herself.

End roll

So the expected happens and the Nazis invade Earth with the most implausible of space crafts and what ensues is well… Epic and I will leave it for your eyes only. One thing that I will reveal to you which I thought was hilarious and mind you the reason I’m about to tell you this is only me emphasizing how silly this movie is. Do you know the Hitler meme? From the movie, Der Untergang? Google “Hitler Reaction” you’ll get the results.   Remember how people kept putting in those fake subtitles? Well guess what, this movie actually has a parody of that. Hard. Core.

Perspective

For all the effort these people have put it, it really is a good movie, and you see a lot of passion shining through. It may sound silly but the amount of effort put in to a movie about space Nazis is quite remarkable! It truly is a lot of fun and again, don’t take it too seriously, that’s the reason this movie was made, you do however take away a few good morals from the movie so it’s not completely mindless!
