Despite the majority of the public listening to mainstream music like Dubstep and RnB, people tend to forget there is still hope for good music genres out there. Don’t get me wrong. I like Deadmau5 and Skrillex just like everyone else but sometimes I think genres like Death Metal and Screamo are… underrated. Sure, people don’t want to listen to musicians screaming poetic lyrics that listeners won’t seem to understand or the guitars being amp’ed too loud to understand the song at all.. but it is still an underrated genre. With all this backfall, the numbers of rockers still rise in the UAE and it looks like they are taking the not-so-appreciated music genres pretty seriously due to crazy number of bands being formed in Dubai alone.

Last week, my Facebook news feed was filled with my friends sharing and liking a song called “Execute” by a Dubai-based band called Pyrocist. All I could think of was “THEY DID IT. THEY ACTUALLY DID IT”. Having two friends in the band  - totally makes you feel awesome and is a great icebreaker at parties - kept me updated about the band’s status and what they were doing. Recently, the band recently their debut song called “Execute” on their Facebook fan page and Reverbnation, which has taken the #3 spot on the UAE metal charts!

Pyrocist is a local melodic death metal band (yes, that is a genre) consisting of 5 aspiring rocker dudes: Filip, Ridwan, Omer, Viren and Rahim. You might be wondering how did guys from different walks of life end up playing in this band anyway? It all started when Rahim (drummer) met Ridwan (lead guitarist) at school sometime late last year, and their mutual taste in music caused them to have jamming sessions together. After a few sessions, they decided that if they could scout for some missing members, their dreams of being rockstars would actually come true.

Rahim met Omer and Viren, who are the band’s rhythm guitarist and bassist, at a friend’s place. While Viren dazzled with his amazing bass skills Omer showed clear determination and urge to learn (driving up and down from Ajman while the rest of the band were in Dubai) and soon became a mainstay in the band. Ridwan met the final member, the vocalist Filip at a local gig, surprisingly, prior to this Filip  was a drummer for a Thrash metal band, however, his experience with the Metal Genre was instrumental to Pyrocist.

With this Pyrocist was up and running, performing at many events such as Cambridge International School’s Performing Arts, Me Gigsta and Metal Friday.

“Pyrocist was the opening band for Me Gigsta and it was our first performance. The crowd went wild in the middle of our second original song and started headbanging  to our song. That was when I knew our hardwork paid off” -Rahim

The band proves that hardwork, determination and optimism plays an important role in getting what you really want.

“We are just a group of hardworking guys looking to give the metal scene something  something special yet giving you the serenity of pure melody. Every member in the band is dedicated to do their absolute best. And every member’s style and taste differs. While respecting each other’s opinions, we create music which is refined and favored by all. -Ridwan”

“Execute” was recorded at one of the biggest recording studios in Dubai, “In The Mix”. The song was produced by CEO Nash Planojevic, who is an ex-sound engineer and producer for legendary Brits Iron Maiden.

Pyrocist’s members are working on a much-anticipated EP right now, scheduled to be released late-2012. Until then, headbang and enjoy ”Execute”.
